Other Development Initiatives

The BCDC partners with Engineers without Borders (EWB), a leader in community-driven development programs, to implement small-scale infrastructure projects throughout Buseesa. Members from the Cincinnati chapter of EWB work directly with the community to construct biogas digesters for sustainable energy, and clean-drinking water facilities for improved hygiene and nutrition. This collaboration with EWB generates engineering solutions that empower Buseesa to meet its fundamental human needs.

In 2010 A medical team from UCLA, that partnered with BCDC to treat patients in Buseesa, found that 80 percent of the ill children that they attended to were sick due to poor sanitation that could be largely addressed through latrines and better hygiene such as washing one’s hands with soap. To combat this issue the BCDC built a number of latrines around the Buseesa area.
