Maria, like many other BCDC Board members, visited Africa for the first time and then couldn’t get enough. In 2011, she spent a year teaching at a secondary school in Buseesa, and she fell in love with the people of Uganda. Since then, Maria has returned to Uganda as a teacher and has visited some of the remotest schools in the country. Maria’s passion is education and working with children, and she provides key leadership for the BCDC ’s Deirdre Ann Academy. She has worked as Education Coordinator for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati.
Maria has a B.A. in Biology and English from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, an M.A. in English from the University of Cincinnati, and she’s currently pursuing a Masters in Education at Harvard University with hopes to utilize her expertise both at home and abroad.
She also teaches Ashtanga Yoga in her spare time.
